Building on a legacy of innovation in the art of animation that includes the introduction of the multi-plane camera, implementing state-of-the-art digital techniques for creating hand-drawn animation with the Oscar(r)-winning software CAPS, and new inventions such as Deep Canvas (introduced on "Tarzan"), our 3D painting and rendering experts continue to take the art to the next level. Software Engineers develop tools, processes, algorithms, and plug-ins to solve a variety of challenges. Graphics Engineers write software for rigging, animation, dynamics, shading, FX, look, and/or rendering while leveraging experience in graphics technology, mathematics, and research. Pipeline Engineers build and streamline the complex system for management of assets, shaders, and data that comprise our scenes. IxD & QE Engineers consult on best practices and provide design, usability, and testing infrastructure. Mobile and Web Developers build our internal mobile tools and websites, which coalesce documentation, execute reports for production management, and administer HR databases. We believe in keeping our software engineers educated on the state-of-the art. As such, we support them in attending and contributing to the top conferences in their subject areas.

Technical Directors work directly with artists and software developers to strategize solutions to a range of production and pipeline challenges. These technical gurus flex their skills to write scripts, adapt tools, and establish workflows in support of artistic endeavors. They have a solid understanding of the processes and pipelines of CG Animation, VFX or Video Game production.

In the Systems team at Walt Disney Animation Studios, we build tools and manage infrastructure that artists use daily to create celebrated feature animation films. The Systems team is responsible for the architecture, design and support for a wide range of services, including media systems, data center operations, networking, large compute and storage farms, directory and communication services, backups, databases operating systems, mobile computing and technical support.
