Grace Hopper Celebration 2026

The urban metropolis of Zootopia is filled with high-speed police car chases, flaming "hogrods," multi-tier bunny tour buses, and cars of all shapes and sizes zooming down its streets. Throughout this presentation, we will explore the challenges of bringing vehicles to life during the production of Zootopia 2 through the lens of a software engineer and a technical director. Some challenges included adopting Pixar's "driving system" within Presto, rigging a diverse range of vehicles compatible with this system, and building new show-specific tools for animation workflows. This exploration of Zootopia 2 vehicles will highlight how technical directors and engineers collaborate closely with artists during the production process, provide insight into how technology is used to enable a film's story and creative vision, and bring a fun inside look into the making of Disney animated movies.
