Modeler
Tell us about your role at Disney Animation.

As a Character Modeler, I translate a 2D concept into a 3D model. I work closely with the Character Supervisor, Art Director, Visual Development Designers, Rigging Artists, and Animators to bring the Director’s vision to life.

Each character presents unique challenges, and my goal is always to capture the character's essence while ensuring they are prepared for movement and performance. It is incredibly rewarding to contribute to a larger vision alongside so many talented artists who all plus the work as it moves through production.

What is the most memorable Disney Animation project you have contributed to and why?

Moana 2 holds a special place in my heart as it is the first Walt Disney Animation Studios film I worked on. The level of care and thoughtfulness provided by the Oceanic Trust was incredible. It was a privilege to be part of a project led by directors who hold such high regard and respect for the peoples of Oceania.

I especially enjoyed working on the character Moni. As a kind, strong, silly and a storykeeper, he reminded me of the young men in my home nation. This kind of representation is deeply inspiring, and it motivated me to work even more diligently to translate his 2D concept into 3D.

What do you look for in a portfolio?

Growth is rooted in a continuous desire to learn, and your unique voice or point of view is what makes your work stand out. Our individual stories naturally shine through in what we create, and the choices made in personal projects speak volumes about an artist's identity.

There is only one you—don't be afraid to embrace your own perspective, as everyone else is already taken. Embrace it.

Where do you draw creative inspiration from?

Nature is one of the most clever and inspiring designers. There is something inherently restorative and energizing about being outdoors that brings out our natural gifts. It has elegant flow and beauty about it that we can always learn more from.

Anything else we should know?

I am Indigenous, my father was Sylix and my mother was Secwépemc. My family and culture play a big role in how I have gotten to this point and beyond. I am forever grateful for those foundational aspects of my life that have led me here. I look forward to what I will learn as I continue this journey.
